Creative DirectorModern Designers
“I think I’m still a designer?” says Mat. Mat set up Modern Designers as freelancer in 2004 but there are many more staff these days. Now he mainly talks a lot.
What role does music play in your everyday life as a designer?
I had to throw a copy of David Gray’s ‘White Ladder’ behind a cupboard in an agency I used to work at. So yes, it does have an influence. Especially in the office.

I’m quite old now so I’ve had a lot of phases. A pop phase. A Bowie phase. A psychobilly phase. A hip-hop Phase. A flute phase. A house phase. A deep house phase. An ambient phase. A fancying Sarah Cracknel phase. A folk phase and another Bowie phase. I tried to put a bit of everything on this. All office friendly obviously.
