What role does music play in your day-to-day life as a creative?:

Like many of the creatives featured on Various Artists, music has always played a huge role in my life. My Dad has an impressive CD and record collection and is a bit of a discogs fanatic. Early memories of music take me back to family holidays driving down to the coast where mix tapes carefully curated by my parents were just as important as our luggage.

Growing up in rural Lincolnshire meant that I didn’t get a great deal of exposure to certain music and there was very little visual culture to engage with. For me Myspace was the catalyst in which creativity and music went hand in hand and whether I knew it or not at the time I was engaging with a new form of DIY culture. The platform allowed artists to publish music that was accessible to anyone and every band page looked different, contrasting to todays unified Spotify profiles. I spent evenings and weekends recording crappy demos on Garage Band, which were then uploaded to my profile that I skinned myself using hacked together html. A lot of my creations soon became part of the Myspace graveyard however I value those primitive years because they gave me a good grounding in various music genres and sparked a passion for creating things for the sake of it.

Tell us about your playlist:

I’m off to Primavera in Barcelona at the end of the month with a large group friends which is very exciting. The lineup every year is out of this world therefore it would be a shame not to put together a list of tracks to help me prepare for an week of amazing music in the sun. The bands play through the afternoon and well into the night so you need stamina or a well scheduled siesta else you will miss out!
